September ends with
morning clouds tinted blue
Sunday savvy

--gillena cox

September begins on the same day of the week as December every year, because there are 91 days separating September and December, which is a multiple of seven (the number of days in the week). No other month ends on the same day of the week as September in any year.

"the film Inward Hunger" airs -
halcyon era

--gillena cox

This Sunday's savvy is prompted from OSI 'halcyon'

Attended tonight, with my brother Conrad-Dominic and my daughter Yanda, Film Festival's film 'Inward Hunger'. A well edited documentary style and most enthralling film on the life of Eric Williams first prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago celebrated a golden anniversary this past August 31st and tomorrow another milestone in the nations history a holiday - Republic day is observed.

Shiki (October 14, 1867 – September 19, 1902) may be credited with salvaging traditional short-form Japanese poetry and carving out a niche for it in the modern Meiji Period. While he advocated reform of haiku, this reform was based on the idea that haiku was a legitimate literary genre. He argued that haiku should be judged by the same yardstick that is used when measuring the value of other forms of literature–something that was contrary to views held by prior poets. Shiki firmly placed haiku in the category of literature, and this was unique.
Some modern haiku are typified by deviating from the traditional use of 5-7-5 sound pattern and dispensing with the kigo ("season word"); Shiki's haiku reform advocated neither break with tradition...

...over the last weekend, on Saturday, my cell phone rings, i pick it up and press accept; the voice of my niece Candice addresses me; "my mom's in Trinidad, we are going to Maracas do, you want to come with us?" sure i answer, so i get my only swim suit and a towel bag them and await the Saturday beach party; turns out to be Candice, two of sisters: Gail and Annmarie, Yvens - a friend of Gail, and myself. Since its Yvens' first visit to Trinidad the car is full of talk about mainly food, flora and fauna...

Sunday savvy/jasmine flowers bloom/in a pot of tea
--gillena cox

Last Sunday, i wanted to fold an origami crane to photograph and upload to my Sunday post; try as i might, i just wasn't getting it right, so i used an image from google. However i fiddled and fumbled throughout the day and come Monday i was still at it, until i eventually got it, so today again i'm posting but this time, its my folded crane. The paper used for folding my crane is from a pack, sent to me a few years ago, as a gift, from a haiku friend, Etsuko from Japan.
As such today i'm offering a prompt: completion

Sunday savvy

--gillena cox

Today, i pause to reflect on questions from Lunch Break fans. What is Sunday Savvy?...well, its a phrase i coined for this Sunday series. Inherently it's to explore 'Sundayness': that which is special to, or about, Sunday. Growing up, back in those years, older folks used a sort of french jargon within their English dialects here in the Caribbean; one of those words was 'savey' and, when used, it would be like asking rhetorically "you know what i mean?" so simply, i'm just exploring 'Sundayness' ('Sundayness') - a word i've coined)
