furling in sunlight
a fragrant whiff can charm
the heart's sad retreat
a fragrant whiff can charm
layers off a sullen face
the heart's sad retreat -
smiles buried in scarred recess
wind their way to light

Sunday Lime 1
Every month has a flower which symbolizes someone's birth. The characteristics of that flower may be "inherited" by whomsoever is born in that particular month. Each month's flower is sometimes referred to as a Birth Month Flower. Then too, in a cultural sense, flower characteristics such as appearance, color, and scent, bear relevance as gifts. It is believed that the Romans started celebrating births and birthdays using flowers. read more here

'smiles buried in scarred recess' well put
The scent of a beautiful flower can change one's outlook 100-fold. Breathe in, breathe out! Well expressed, Gillena.
Perhaps the heart retreats to find new strength and bloom again

Love the thought of a smell like that... Fragrance can be more important than looks.

I agree with brudberg, fragrance is important. Olfactory memories can be incredibly powerful.
Somehow, I never knew that birth months had associated flowers. It makes sense (pun intended)!
Love the use of birth flowers and the form used perfectly.

Flowers can certainly charm the sadness out of us.
I love the earthy smell of chrysanthemum - perfect for November and the flower of my birth month. Just the smell makes me smile and feel closer to the earth.
The sounds of the words you chose and the shape of the flower fit so well.

That is some really interesting factual information. I'll have to go check out what my birth month flower is. The flower you chose for this poem sounds like it belongs to a person who is very kind. Great poem.

A flower and light being changes everywhere. Thanks! K.

What a great use of repetition. I see the unfurling of the flower, the scent and the smile. Here, Mums are not the most fragrant of flowers,. I imagined it with a peony.
The peony is also consideredv a November flower, thanks for dropping by Susan
