TIME OUT
first snowflake, the front door slightly ajar
a howling wind, i curve into my conscious self
Santa his cherry cheeks, mall decor delights
a familiar face oh, but no smiles in cold weather
hot chocolate, cinnamon sprinkled marshmallows
subway passengers, head scarved coat wrapped
gifts in gift boxes, no extra paper wrappings
relatives, names etched in each post card sent
busy bees phone to say, see ya next time
numbers dates flights, airport signs and waves
three syllables at Arrivals Counter, returning
in the reality of greenness, hankering for home

Well, I must say the thought of a 'first snowflake' is a bit of a shock to my system (ha), as we are just hopefully LEAVING winter behind, and the thought of snow leaves me chilled. Nice to think about hot chocolate though. And I understand the yearning for greenness!
ReplyDeletei curve into my conscious self....what a cool line that is....you took us on quite the journey in this as well....whew i am glad i might have seen my last snow flake...smiles.

I like the way your depicted your journey and am not surprised you were hankering for greenness rather than snow flakes.
ReplyDeleteSounds like all your time is filled up.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice thinking of the beauty of the first snowflakes and the delights in winter during this season of waiting as the snow slowly melts exposing the ground to spring growth.
