if the rain comes
soaking dry bones and boughs
window splatter
drawn curtains
the first drizzle
smell of parched
dry earth
this teasing teasing few drops
a child can count the raindrops
will the coming June
open generous bounty
to quench crawling ants
earthworms unseen they must be deeply asleep
still slumbering .. earthly sweet
........Caladiums .. know the answer

You have captured so well the feeling of waiting for rain... I am sure the earthworms will be pleased as well.
ReplyDeleteOh, the waiting ... we wait with such impatience, but the earthworms and flowers wait in a quiet suspension ... and then burst forth. You've created good tension in this piece ...
