THE TASTE OF MANGOES AT SUNSET
ripe mangoes
so many in a basket
on the sidewalk
to buy some is tantamount
to repast of sweet joys

is it worth the wait
standing in a queue waiting
a turn to receive
a bounty of fruit unblemished
maybe i should plant a seed

length of days to harvest
enough sunshine to warm hearts
slumped beneath caring
like a horizon divides
daisy petals under trust

see where love leads
now that noontime wonders if
the sunset will
warm sleepy trysts agendas
or vibrant flavours to tease

was it not a team
of you and i selecting
which suit us best
fit our basket for tastes that
we should take some home

  1. I usually have mango, apple and yoghurt with hazelnuts for breakfast, but I could easily change to mangoes at sunset after reading your tanka series, Gillena! Is it possible to mix mango juice with rum punch?

  5. this is lovely Gillena - delicious and light, and had me teased by the prospect - I really enjoy mangoes - they are just so peculiar a taste, but oh, wonderful :)

and a rum punch drink would be just so perfect right about now, in our dog days of summer!

I really enjoyed your tanka suite and haiku - refreshing!

  11. Beautifully crafted tanka suite Gillena, and that "summer cocktail" is a beauty.
