A LADYBUG LEGEND
... As legend has it, in the Middle Ages, farmers were worried that their crops would be destroyed by insects, so they prayed to the Virgin Mary for help. Red and black beetles soon appeared to feast upon the bothersome insects and the people began calling the helpers "The Beetle of Our Lady." It is said that the beetles' red wings represent the red cloak Mary is often pictured wearing in biblical paintings, and the spots are representative of the seven joys and seven sorrows of the Virgin

I think everyone loves the Lady Bug, but I am guessing none of us, until today, had any idea why. This was a wonderfully informative piece on one of nature's superheroes ... Thank you, Gillena and I did go look at the link and took down the address for the study on the ladybug. Such a fun and uplifting post :)
