What's there to smile about today? Thank God for the grace of poetry (and maybe an omelet at breakfast)
SUNDAY SMILES
ANNE BRONTË - A Reminiscence
(With my highlights for a found haiku)
Yes, thou art gone and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door
And pace the floor that covers thee;
May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that frozen lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.
Yet, though I cannot see thee more
'Tis still a comfort to have seen,
And though thy transient life is o'er
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;
To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair
United to a heart like thine
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

My growing up nickname was Smiley. I still smile a lot. Have a blessed Sunday, we are off for church.

Looks like mask-wearing is going to be a part of our lives for quite a while, so they may as well be brightly colored!

I enjoyed all your haiku., Yes, a lovely tribute to Anne. And a very apposite response to the wide-eyed young lady.
ReplyDeleteExcellent writings Gillena. I especially liked the image of the color covered mouths on the white sears — beautiful. Engages one to think. I am pleased to join in at P&SU in this new year. Hope it’s a good one for all
