Thursday 11th February was my Birthday.
Tis once again my month, of sometimes 28, sometimes 29 days, but always my birthday appears, so too Valentines Day and there is Carnival
The Lord is my strength, my shield,
my heart puts its trust in Him;
Psalm 28:7
What's there to smile about today? Thank God for the grace of poetry

AND
A CAT NAMED CHARCOAL
a wintery night
the depth of shivers before -
a warm counterpane
black lace -
enough holes for heartbreak
to seep through
truth be told
better a pet; a black cat
which stays by her side.

Loved the mask poem--an extra layer of trying to navigate a muffled world. And the cat poem made me sigh.

LOL, I've had similar troubles in grocery stores too. I'm always fascinated by the patterns and designs on masks. I wish I wasn't allergic to cats. I rather like them otherwise. And I know my corgi actually really likes cats.

The "black lace" haiku is magnificent. So much being told so clearly in such few words.
ReplyDeleteAnd the mask one made me grin. I've been there (more than once).
Happy Sunday, Gillena.
Happy Sunday! Good writes, as usual. I particularly like the part about "better a pet which stays by her side."
ReplyDeleteI like the different aspects you give on this evocative photo.
