Thursday 11th February was my Birthday.
Saying Goodbye to February today: of sometimes 28, sometimes 29 days, but always my birthday appears, so too Valentines Day and there is Carnival
The Lord is my strength, my shield,
my heart puts its trust in Him;
Psalm 28:7
What's there to smile about today? Thank God for the grace of poetry

We've all had to perfect the art of "smizing" (smiling with our eyes) in the last year.

I wonder if I smile more, trying to make it visible all over my face? Also, loved the magical shifts behind the curtains of familiar houses.

I often wonder if I will recognize the people I've come to know during mask-wearing time! It's a weird world.

You know, after reading your first haiku and the previous comments, I'm beginning to wonder if people are doing more to their eyes--widening more than usual, adding more expressive makeup--just to show that they are smiling.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like the closing sequence.

Almost paradoxical, and beautifully summed up. Reading your troiku too, I'm struck by the similarities between masks and drawn curtains.

I didn't mind wearing a mask except in the winter when my spectacles fogged over. Luckily our winters are short in Australia. As for poetry; it is always a great retreat from worry and boredom.

It looks like everyone misses those smiles that are hidden. But how many were hidden even with no visible mask?
ReplyDeleteYour art and words make me smile behind my keyboard.

ReplyDeleteI don't mind wearing a mask. I wore one in winter before covid. I see smiling eyes. Have a nice evening.
ReplyDeleteA dash of magic is necessary - for haiku and for these times!
