Easter to the christian mind is the joyous celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ; blended into this world wide acnowledgement is the Egg tradition, and coloured boiled eggs provide delight to children as well as adults. How did egg find its way into Easter you may ask, well there are many cultures which believe "the world began as an enormous egg, thus the egg as a symbol of new life ..." read more here

... the 115 scarlet-robed prelates chanted the Litany of Saints, the sounds of the Gregorian chant echoing through the soaring hall as, walking two-by-two, they implored the saints to guide their voting They then took an oath of secrecy, first collectively and then individually, as each placed his right hand on the gospel and intoned the words in Latin accented by their native languages...
...And today Wednesday March 13th 2013 they meet again to vote
PRAYER FOR THE ELECTION OF A NEW POPE
Lord God, You are our eternal shepherd and guide. Fill with your Spirit the Conclave which will elect a new Bishop of Rome, a new Pontiff for the Universal Church. In your mercy give us the joy of receiving a shepherd after your own heart who will walk in your ways and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing. In this Year of Faith, give us a shepherd who will be able to fill our hearts and minds with the truth of your gospel. May he be to all your people an example of faith and goodness. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Today, Sunday, the catholic church is without a pope, since Benedict XVI vacated due to ill health. (God's speed and a happy retirement). The last abdication of a pope happened in 1415
Our Responsorial Psalm today is taken from Psalm 102; The Lord is compassion and love; slow to anger and rich in mercy

March--The Month of Mars
This month, originally the first in the year, is named after Mars, the God of War. He was the son of Jupiter and Juno, the king and queen of the gods, and was generally represented in a shining suit of armour, with a plumed helmet on his head, a spear in one hand, and a shield in the other. His chariot was driven by the Goddess of War, Bellona, who also watched over his safety in battle; for the gods often took part in the battles which were constantly raging on the earth. During the great fight between the gods and the giants to decide who was to rule the world, Mars was captured by two of the giants, who bound him with iron chains and kept watch over him day and night. After over a year of captivity he was freed by the clever god Mercury, who succeeded in loosening the chains so silently that the giants heard no sound. Mars also took part in the Trojan War, when he was acttually wounded...
