AWAITING
building a bridge
between snow-covered mountains
white egrets/ mb
piercing dawn before the sun
song birds and their choruses/gc
don't be like me
even though we're like the melon
split in two/ mb
yearning for a sail to set
us years apart no longer/ gc
wait awhile
cut the soy beans to the sound
of monks beating bowls/ mb
rosary beads the colour of
morning light as she rolls them/ gc
path of the sun
the hollyhock leans into
early summer rain/ mb
two shadows frame the path
as midday cast her divide/ gc
plovers fly away
the evening grows later with
cold mountain winds/ mb
seashells no longer carry
fairy tales with glass slippers/ gc
summer rain
where the poem card peeled off
a mark on the wall/ mb
our initials enclosed
a heart carved in a tree trunk/ gc
