Carpe Diem #745 moonrise
tsuki shiro ya hiza ni te o oku yoi no yado
moonrise
holding their hands on their knees
evening at a house
[hokku - basho; Tr. Jane Reichhold]
sitting on the back steps
cooling of darkening skies
whites of plumeria
shine through like night stars
in the garden
the birds have gone to roost
leaving behind a quiet twilight
my grand child speaks
in sentences; she likes
orange juice best
surely the kitchen door
should be repainted again
first rains -
the delight of plumbagos
dancing in the wind
an umbrella unfurls
to quickening footsteps
[2-8 - gillena cox]

This is the renga our host - Chèvrefeuille shared with us
Hokku:
moonrise
holding their hands on their knees
evening at a house
on her wooden throne
grandmother makes me a new quilt
an open window
the sound of a chainsaw in consonance
with a woodpecker
the sweet perfume of young leaves
makes me dance and sing with joy
she smiles at me
love at first sight this is
eyes full of compassion
looking at the young leaves
blue irises bloom
the old pond becomes young again
a frog jumps in
she, the moon, reflects in the water
splash ... her face wrinkles

I'm not happy when we have rain, but after a long, dry, hot season I can see that you would welcome it. :)

The rain probably makes it nice after all the hot sun. Those are beautiful flowers, too.
