Ever considered The Daffodil as a Lenten flower? well
Legend has it the Daffodil first appeared in the Garden of Gethsemane, during the event of The Last Supper, it was a sign of great sorrow, and hope for better things to come. In England Daffodils are known as Lent Lilies. And, in Medieval times, it was believed that if a Daffodil drooped or wilted while you were watching, it was an omen of death.

My favourite Daffodil poem is by William Wordsworth
"I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;

I
a girl stands to look
there's a red hibiscus hedge
right across the street

she plucks a blossom
always a skip in her step
on her way to school

II
roses she receives
bring a blush to her cheek
and promises too

settled in a few
guava fruit ripen sweetly
cozy comforts new

time never stands still
there are highs and there are low
the graph that life charts

III
yes she is bold enough
so she plants other flowers
and the bird love them

she can offer now
bird songs and hibiscus games
ever happily

“Wolves and women are relational by nature, inquiring, possessed of great endurance, and strength. They are deeply intuitive, intensely concerned with their young, their mate, and their pack. Yet both have been hounded, harassed and falsely imputed to be devouring and devious, overly aggressive, of less value than those who are their detractors.” — Clarissa Pinkola Estes

The road is winding, with views of low dropping cliffs to dare you look down, only because the bus window is turned up. Adventure seeking is not for timid in spirit, certainly a prayer of the heart helps one along. The bus driver is able and safety takes us along the way to the reserve. A cradle in the loving arms of the Northern Range, is The Asa Wright Nature Center, a non profit Trust established in 1967. It protects and conserves wild life in that part of the Arima Valley and surrounding rainforest.

On our trek, with a skilled guide; birds making strange sounds, turn our heads skyward, only to see a canopy of tree branches. We swoon at stories of the strength of 'Monkey vine' and myth of 'Hot Lips' and yield to caution of 'the wait awhile', an unassuming yet dangerous little palm all; all the while, soaking in the odor of Eucalyptus Trees. A day of (森林浴) or literally, forest bathing.
