careful footsteps...
where once our ancestors
trod with such ease

--gillena cox

The trek into the forest with our guide Joel proved to be every bit interesting and informative; we step carefully, staying on the path, avoiding the the dense rooted areas of balisier and other heliconias, for there in the snakes lurk.

As luck would have it we were able to spot, hummingbirds, the white bearded manakin also referred to as the 'forest no good', responded to the guide's finger clicking and appeared low in the trees, looking like round balls of white cotton; the golden headed manakin also referred to as the 'forest Michael Jackson', (the male so dubbed for their courtship dance); the collared trogon, and we were enthralled into silence, to see the bearded bellbird after hearing his compelling resounding thunk thunk thunk sound. We even got a display of his fanning white tail feathers

A bit of the history informs, the original house built circa 1908 known as Spring Hill Estate was a privately owned cocoa, citrus, and coffee estate. Loaded with ephiphytes a tangerine tree, aged at more than 70 years still stands rooted

A break for lunch, from readings, allowed time to refresh and recharge.
Wandering around the compound to lush treats of flora, birds at the bird feeders, and lizards filled the break. As well, there was the pocket museum to visit. The view from the museum's veranda is nothing short of stunning

April Showers

Happy Poetry Month

William Shakespeare said “Men are April when they woo, December when they wed. Maids are May when they are maids, but the sky changes when they are wives.”

What say you email me i'll add it to this post

phone call number one
My husband calls me almost daily. No phone call has been as thrilling and anticipated as that first one on April 17, 1974, nearly thirty-five years ago. He
asked me to go to a movie, first date

--Quentin Clingerman from US says
Oh April showers
Rain dandelions galore
Yellow pollen falls

--William Sorlien from US says
When I first started writing poetry, I "installed" some guerilla art at the poetry park by Lake Phalen in my hometown, using chalk on the asphalt walkways to entice passersby with haiku. That summer evening there were much needed heavy rains and I got to watch the verses melt away, one by one...
evening rain
my poems washed away
to feed the earth
