HYPE

stark sunlight
the concrete sidewalk hot with
incentive to win

The Great Race circle
of players and fans hitch
their boats for display

no time to wallow
in despair; pounding the beat
calypso music

scatter the strain
of waiting anxiety
illuminate fun

striking a chord of neighbourhood gaiety

Love the flow of this, especially:
"scatter the strain
of waiting anxiety"

I often think the names of the boats are more fun than watching them race, plus the atmosphere of course. However I can relate with the "sidewalk hot with incentive to win."
