PRETTY BUTTON

alone
fashioned for me -
fits so well

when dear old hubby
packed his bags to chase rainbows
i became moon glow

Our children grown
deign to clutter spaces theirs -
bird songs woo me

punctuated by
the grand baby's visit -
my alone-ness

today is adorned
pretty -
a button on my blouse

--gillena cox

Actually this is, I think, my favorite poem of yours that I have read. And truly there are times that 'alone' fits very well. Though I like the entire poem, the last stanza with its intricate wording is my favorite.

we need those moments of alone time...i miss my wife during them...but i think they give us room to grow and pursue things we would not in order to benefit the other person...

This is my fave of the responses, Gillena. Especially love "when dear old hubby packed his bags to chase rainbows, I became moonglow." I love "bird songs woo me." I think I wrote on somewhat similar lines. Your poem truly resonates for me. Something about making lemonade, hee hee.

Sad but powerful, cutting and loving, so many emotions in this and so many tears and smiles. Excellent.

A beautiful and moving poem, Gillena! I like how you say so much in a few words.

Lovely poem--sad but hopeful and feels very true.

What a lovely poem. When our partner leaves us, it may not be all tears and loneliness ahead, but rather a liberation and a sense of being abel at long last to rejoice in one's solitude.

That's a creative take on the prompt, showing the sadness and hope all together.

I really enjoyed reading this poem, Gillena! Indeed, sometimes - most of the time actually - alone fits. The last stanza is my favourite, but I liked the whole poem. It's lovely!

Buttons - I remember with fondness Mom's button box. It held so much fascination for me. Wonderful words to go along with these buttons and their only company is other buttons.
