['Emily Carr, "Big Raven" (1931)' courtesy The imaginary garden]
without his sweet song
this wooded bird clings to blood
of wastelands bleeding
where love is lost deep
such heartless yearnings for stone
cringe in fresh baked bread
wild wind stares aghast
frozen in the midst of toil
unholy dramas

Those first two lines really grabbed me! What an image!
Whoaa.. such powerful images in your poem Gillena, especially caught with "where love is lost deep, such heartless yearnings for stone, cringe in fresh baked bread." Beautifully expressed.

Love the first three lines.
"unholy dramas", yes there are many of those still, since 1924,,and many a hope "frozen in the midst of toil",,,well said and thought provoking, both politically and emotionally, for me anyway,,,,
The secret life and worries of a stone bird. Well told, Gillena.
..
Such a powerfully evocative image that echoes your words. The sentinel watching helplessly. XXX

Things are bad when the "wild wind stares aghast" normally is just flees away. What a dramatic piece of poetry from you Gillena most suited the recent carnage in Nice.
the first stanza hits hard...
A wooded bird clinging to blood is very powerful - and yet i still feel the force with which it can sing..and prevail
Each tercet offers a complete and extraordinary image. This has so much depth - very thought-provoking piece.
Wow! Very nice!
Haunting work!
Eerie tone... A trio that speaks of the current turmoil sweeping the world.

Deprived of its ability and desire to do good it can cause carnage and sufferings indiscriminately to others around. Very much so Gillena!

The contrast of the hardness in stone and the softness in bread captured me...well done on this depiction, Gillena.
There's a contrast in warmth as well as hardness/softness. I was thinking about the hospitality of warm bread, and the coldness of stone.
