CHAPTER 3 ... STRANGE SOUNDS

Christmas carols -

two grackles linger between

the melodies

"So tired, hungry, don’t think I can go much further, I miss my wife, I miss my children so very much."

Anansi was what we Trinis call a 'family man'. Anansi loved his family dearly and could not bear to be away from them for very long.

All around him was dense lush greenery. He was hearing strange sounds of birds and animals, all for the very first time. And he thought to himself: "If I could only reach the coastline I could start ...

Beautiful haiku, and most intriguing bit of story.

PS When I visited Texas in 2006, I thought the grackles were very beautiful birds – even though the locals regarded them as a pest.

It sounds good. "If only ..." he could have a fresh start in a new land. You can tell I haven't been reading your serial posting of this. Like the days of old, publishing first as a serial in a newspaper.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas. Sort of sad around here, for the second time now COVID has spoiled the family get-to-gether at our home. For various reasons of their own, some have not been vaccinated.

The snippet is intriguing. Unlike Rosemary, graekels have never endeared themselves to me! They usurp the birdfeeder and they do not share!!

I like that Anansi can be both and family man and a trickster. Some can't balance those roles very well.

I also really like that the antlers resemble tiny branches.

Love the idea of grackles enjoying Christmas carols (and probably scavenged holiday snacks).
