2026

The grackle is a common place blackbird, i find them quite charming and elegant with their long extravagant tails. They skip on my wall, and swoop down when the lawn grass is freshly cut. Maybe they like the scent of cut grass. On the wall they are brave and curious at the same time. I never tire of looking at them. I talk to them sometimes, they draw nearer when they hear my voice. They whistle outside my closed window. I peek at them behind the closed panes.

I like black birds. The grackles I've heard don't have the most pleasant sound though. But this is about attitude "a stare defiant" lovethat

While Grackles aren't my favorite bird I do enjoy their iridescent colors, especially when the sun shines on them. I guess we are bird brains today, I painted one too, love your lunch break sketch!

What's not to love of birds and moon... especially when a bit of defiance is added to the mix.

Whistles!!❤️💖 This is absolutely splendid writing Gillena, love those grackles and the spirit which you have woven in your verse. Sigh.. may their charm and elegance continue to affect us. Beautifully executed. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support❤️💖

Don't know grackles, but from the description I'd say the words fit perfectly... Happy PPF ♥

they can be annoying birds but they are still fun to watch. Fine drawings and poetry. Happy PPF again-and SO glad you linked up your poetry page earlier-I just loved it.

I love the way their wings look when the sunlight catches them just right. I can see why you were inspired by them.

The oriental feel of your sketch complements your haiku poem perfectly. You should work on etegami cards too. Blessings!

Love this bird with your wonderful commentary! Beautiful artwork! Nothing like the sweet sound of the little birds!!

I think I would like the Grackle, we do have a few noisy birds that make use of the easy pickings in the gardens after grass is cut or soil turned over in Australia. Like the Grackle they too give you the eye asserting their rights as well.

Lovely. We have a lot of birds around our house, too, but we have cats so they stay a safe distance until the sunflowers bloom. :) Then they're all over them.

I enjoy these birds, too. They add noise mornings that may feel too silent and I love their seeming independence, brazen and beautiful. You have described them so well and I like your sketches as well.

cute sketch Gillena!

Never heard a grackle - great name, though. We have magpie larks which sound as if they have the same sort of character. Some of them sound like rusty bicycles when they start to 'warble' though! I really like the simple loose style you've used to draw the bird.
