rainforest spirits...
clearly your ardor for love
knows no bounds

--gillena cox

We all love a happily ever after story, be it myth or true life; well, we were surely entertained by the forest myth about a plant we now know as 'hot lips'. And the story goes... should a young man spontaneously and unprompted, touch his lips to the bright red bracts of the 'hot lips' he will in turn win the woman he desires.

Other attractions as we treks include; the herb garden; an enormous ant hill created by bachacs(leaf cutter ants); the monkey ladder - which starts on the ground and vines its way up into the trees, becoming woody as it matures, its is used to make very pricy furniture pieces; 'the wait awhile', an unassuming little palm - the underside of the leaf grabs and holds (we were given a demonstration of this), its can be dangerous to persons moving swiftly or even running through trail, it can grab and rip away bits of one's face, it is used in the construction of tapia houses; and, the wafts of sweet fragrance from the incense trees.
Only a slither of the wonders of our rainforest trek; just saying....

This is Part 5, end of - mini series 'Poetry Picnic - Asa Wright Nature Center'

much love
