I
a girl stands to look
there's a red hibiscus hedge
right across the street

she plucks a blossom
always a skip in her step
on her way to school

II
roses she receives
bring a blush to her cheek
and promises too

settled in a few
guava fruit ripen sweetly
cozy comforts new

time never stands still
there are highs and there are low
the graph that life charts

III
yes she is bold enough
so she plants other flowers
and the bird love them

she can offer now
bird songs and hibiscus games
ever happily

“Wolves and women are relational by nature, inquiring, possessed of great endurance, and strength. They are deeply intuitive, intensely concerned with their young, their mate, and their pack. Yet both have been hounded, harassed and falsely imputed to be devouring and devious, overly aggressive, of less value than those who are their detractors.” — Clarissa Pinkola Estes

As we sow we shall reap--when all is right in the world that will be a blessing for women and everyone. Until we have that freedom, may the hedges give us their gifts and protect us.

The girl grows and allows others to do the same. This is so lovely, Gillena!

How relevant and inspiring Helen Reddy's song still is! And the quote from Clarissa Pinkola Estes is so apposite too. And how I enjoy your happy poem of a woman bold enough to be loving and giving!

Thank you, Gillena, for your positive poem, in a world, where there's so much hate and anger, that one can cut it, with a butter knife.
