The story of Draobete in the Romanian Festival of Love tells of...
...a proud woman, teasing the month of March who then gets even by taking a few days from February. Other stories are of Dochia, sister of Dacian ruler Decebal, who runs away in the mountains to seek refuge from the Roman Emperor Trajan. She disguises herself as a shepherd, but looses her lambskin and freezes. She is then metamorphosed into a stream and her sheep are turned into flowers. Regardless of its origin, the myth of Dragobete speaks of pristine love, of nature’s rituals translated into people’s life, of new life cycles and of being reborn.
Bye Bye February thank you for my birthday on day eleven;
much love

I prefer it bittersweet and hot. But sometimes it has to be white chocolate.

Hot chocolate, yummy, or as I have on my blog, hot cocoa. Growing up we didn't have these mixes that come with sugar, only unsweetened cocoa which my mother mixed with milk and added sugar to taste. For extra richness, a dollop of whipped cream on top.

My paternal grandmother, Veronica Mitchell (many years deceased), used to grind cocoa beans which she would shape into cocoa logs and balls, to be used for making hot chocolate. She sold them, along with herbs and spices in the old Chaguanas market

White chocolate contains cocoa butter, a product of the cocoa bean that is also used to produce chocolate. The cocoa butter, which does have a faint chocolate flavor is combined with milk, sugar and often other flavoring ingredients such as vanilla in order to create the creamy confection known as white chocolate

Historic Note‘Chocolate’, as a drink made with boiling milk, is a British recipe from the 1690′s. It came from adding milk when Sir Hans Sloane, (of ‘Sloane Square’ in London) on a trip to Jamaica in the 1690s found the drink was too bitter made with just water and so asked instead for it to be made with hot milk. He brought this recipe back to London where it rapidly spread.
