Renga With Richard Wright - 'THE UPTURNED BROOM'
All right, You Sparrows;
The sun has set and you can now
Stop your chattering!

to standing ovation
the curtain reopens

You moths must leave now;
I am turning out the light
And going to sleep.

upturned broom in a corner
knowing glances slyly passed

Make up you mind, Snail!
You are half inside your house,
And halfway out!

a vanishing overcast
with chicken hawks circling

One magnolia
Landed upon another
In the dew-wet grass.

skipping to morning light
Tropical Mocking birds

Keep straight down this block,
Then turn right where you will find
A peach tree blooming

walking amids honking horns
the morning rush of traffic
[3-liners © Richard Wright; 2-liners © gillena cox]

NOTE: According to a trini superstition ... if you have a visitor who is reluctant to leave when it's time for him to leave, then you turn a broom upide down and place it in a corner of the house. In that way the visitor will take his immediate exit.

Carpe Diem #1532 Richard Wright's "A Red Sinking Autumn Sun"
The prompt from Chèvrefeuille
For this episode I love to challenge you to create a Renga With Richard Wright. That means: I will give you six haiku. You may choose your own line-up and add your two-lined stanzas. Here are the six haiku to work with:

I am nobody:
A red sinking autumn sun
Took my name away.

Keep straight down this block,
Then turn right where you will find
A peach tree blooming.

Make up you mind, Snail!
You are half inside your house,
And halfway out!

You moths must leave now;
I am turning out the light
And going to sleep.

All right, You Sparrows;
The sun has set and you can now
Stop your chattering!

One magnolia
Landed upon another
In the dew-wet grass.

how quietly -
waters in stealth overtake
the roadways

© gillena cox 2018

October 2018. There has been a catastrophic level of flooding across many communities in Trinidad beginning Friday last. Families are being evacuated from homes in east and central Trinidad as flood waters continue to rise following two days of persistent rainfall.
Emergency forces have given every bit of their mettle to help those in need.

...Shiki hated associations, contrasts, comparisons, wordplays, puns, and riddles - all the things we are cherishing here! He favored the quiet simplicity of just stating what he saw without anything else happening in the haiku.
Chèvrefeuille, has prompted today that we "write a haiku in the shasei style" promoted by Shiki.

[Reposting an oldie today October Sunshine 2009

However we are under a spell of inclement weather, excessively heavy rains over the last few days have resulted in flooding and displacement to some people in some parts of the country. Emergency forces are giving every bit of their mettle to help those in need.

And, the other side of the coin so to speak is: it is not to early to turn our thoughts to Christmas here in T&T. 100 days of Christmas has creeped into and is now a part of our culture. The music works its healing magic
