Douens in Trinidad and Tobago folklore, are the souls of children who have died before  they were baptised. These souls have feet turned backward. And are known to gather and dance beneath The Silk Cotton (Kapok) trees

Oh Gillena, what a sad story, but a great, great urban legend. You drew it beautifully, too. That was incredible, and a story I had never heard before.

What a sad thing, spirits with backward feet?!
You made some interesting art and collages here.

Thanks for sharing the story of the Douens with us. Happy PPF! I have the same problem with my paper appearing grey, when I take the photo with my cellphone. Especially the lighting isn't very good.

Your art is beautiful, but your legend is sad. Children don't die before they are baptized on purpose and yet they are sent to a place away from all others and their feet turned backwards. :( So when they walk, do they have to walk backwards? On the upside, your music was so "happy" and loved how everyone enjoyed participating. Your artwork is always a pleasure to observe, Gillena. A lovely post as usual.

how sad - i wonder if that's where the Vietnamese Cong got the idea of shoes that print backward footprints to fool the Americans!
