the puppy sans mask
visitors at my gate with -
 a bottle of wine

Haiku approached me while i was reading an extramural course in Communications at The University of The West Indies in St Augustine Trinidad. It was very much like the surprise visit my brother and his sooo cute puppy gave me a day last week. A surprise bearing gifts.
I accepted the gift of haiku, which i thought was amazing - a poem only 3 lines with a count of syllables restriction! I laid it aside,  much like the bottle of wine i have still in the fridge to open some another time at my whim.
And then, when i bought my first computer in the late '90s, i deceided then, that's what i'm gonna do! Research, revitalize and make this my new hobby. And so i began writing haiku. First joining yahoo groups, then moving with my group haiku friends into Facebook and into blogsphere. So here i am folks.

Ah, I see – you have answered the question here, as part of your post, about how you started.

Yes, here you are indeed, writing a life in haiku! I have learned so much about where you live and gained a sense of your lifestyle, just from reading these little verses week after week, year after year. What a blessing that haiku came to you!

Love your haiku; it reminds of the days (that seem so far away in the past right now) where we could pop over at our friends' place with a bottle of wine and have great conversations, face to face. I enjoy reading your writing process, too!

Interesting segue into writing via haiku. I am to this day trying to sort out haiku, senyru, and tanka, but I have such fascination for this brief snippets that conjure up elaborate scenarios if well written!

How exciting to learn how you and haiku became such friends. And you've been delighting in the ink-friendship since the 90s. How fantastic!

It is great to read about your adopting poetry as a hobby. We all probably have a similar take to tell. It also good to find a poetic style that that your really enjoy the form of.
