[Hibiscus during sunset by Andrea Mazzocchetti, from a google search]
Soliloquy No Renga

a painting against the blue sky

on the table uneaten
sooty chimney
milk and cookies for Santa
should he make it down
filling the family room
where a Christmas tree sparkles
carols and laughter
in a corner of the room
Nativity scene
yawning on New Year's morning
strains of Auld Lang syne remain
a push pin fastens
a new calendar affixed
to the wooden door

HAIKU PROMPT: challenge you to "revise" a haiku. That haiku is one by Matsuo Basho (1644-1694), the haiku-poet that I see as my master:
in the twilight rain
these brilliant-hued hibiscus -
a lovely sunset.
