a rattle of beads
the gypsy woman eyes closed
will now scry to them

❧✿❧

at the creek a web
no spider has spun awaits
the careless trekker

the helpless cry of
of an animal ensnared
sends a chill through out

then the drumbeat of
the natives sound in union
with swaying of leaves

for there is no sin
when hunger of a village
recedes in a feast

they plaster small huts
with the rich mud they know so well
for threadbare dwelling

And

Carpe Diem
#791 Karnak

...Karnak was a "dynamic" temple complex, because several pharaohs built their temples there. As for example Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV) did in the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt...Akhenaten introduced monotheism with his religion of The Aten (or Aton), the only god to worship, the Sun, to Egypt. There are even scientists who say that Akhenaten created this Atenism, to become the only and most powerful ruler of Egypt, because he saw his self as The Sun...

this photo, first published here at Lunch Break, Chacachacare Saturday March 19th 2011, when i recorded a visit of my book club to the island of Chacachacare, which was used for the setting of 'Prospero's Daughter' a novel written by Trinidadian Elizabeth Nunez.

Today's haiku written in response to the prompt at
Carpe Diem #787 Lighthouse of Alexandria (reprise)

...Gardner went to the lighthouse alone after that. Each time he returned exhausted, his eyes glassy, his limbs limp, his skin pale. He collapsed into his bed and slept for hours. Whenever a rainstorm threatened, he became agitated. Before the first drop fell,he was off again to the lighthouse his bag on his back, his cane in his hand. As irrational as it seemed to me then, I found myself thinking that it was he, not nature, that had caused that terrible storm that had brought him to us, he who had engineered it...[google search excerpt, from 'Prospero's Daughter]
